XOOWMAGAZINE30 P47 #xoowdesign FANSTUDIO

Fanstudio’s project as a luxury furniture design studio was born from the need to design within a limitless environment. Led by prestigious architect and designer, Jorge Goval, a team of experienced creatives decided to unite their experiences, their knowledge and their art within an interdisciplinary creative space where the only limits to their creativity are those of their own talent and capacity to create. Fanstudio’s creative approach is defined by 4 tenets: VANGUARD: Experiential design capable of evoking emotion through stunning aesthetics. Transcending trends whilst remaining true to an underlying creative theme running throughout every collection. LUXURY: Exclusivity is at the core of Fanstudio’s philosophy, and is achieved both through the uniqueness of its designs and the commitment to employ only the best materials, from carbon fiber and fi berglass to technomaterials such as DuPont™ Corian® and coated PUF. CRAFTSMANSHIP: Luxury furniture that is crafted by the best artisans for superior quality and the ability to create custom pieces. MULTIFUNCTION: Reconciling stunning aesthetics with functionality; achieving luxury design that respects practicality. The studio’s commitment to working with the best designers, materials and artisans, has allowed Fanstudio to distance itself from commercial concerns, towards a much more artistic process. Designs themselves are driven by innovation and functionality so as to create breathtaking designs which are both useful and functional; the overall result being the elimination of the barrier between art and design.

Jorge Goval, architect, designer and sculptor was born in Madrid in November 1975. From an early age he showed a great interest for everything related to art in any of its expressions. He started his musical education at the Royal Conservatory in San Lorenzo del Escorial, where he concluded his music theory and piano  studies and excelled in percussive styles. Goval soon showed curiosity for other artistic areas such as painting and sculpture, through which he developed his creativity until he enrolled the Architecture School of Madrid (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid – E.T.S.A.M.) as a means to make his childhood dream come true: becoming a top architect whilst being able to offer his particular vision of art and design to the world. He complemented his university education with sculpture training—his other obsession—through a myriad of different courses and workshops in Germany and France. A great admirer of Constantin Branscusi, he inherited a fundamental principle from him “Simplicity is complexity resolved”, which he applies to all of his work. In the year 2004, after working in several architecture studios, he established Goval Arquitectura S.L.P, his own working space where he would accomplish several luxury architecture, urbanism and interior design projects for individuals and companies, both public and private. In the year 2008 he turned Goval Arquitectura, his architecture and urbanism architecture studio, into Atelier Goval, organizing a multidisciplinary creative space with wider competences, where he would work not only in architecture, but any other kind of design, industrial, graphic, as well as designing props for cinema and television, retail companies. Currently, architects, engineers, designers, photographers, publicists and artisans coexist and share not only their working space, but their knowledge and their experience in Atelier Goval, where they research and develop their technical and artistic visions. At present and since the year 2009, he is Creative Director at Fanstudio, creating a new design concept, more human, more artistic and personal, where the creative team has absolute freedom to develop artistic and engineering ideas.

IWA COLLECTION

The word IWA means ‘stone’ in Japanese. The collection’s central tenet is “the essence of a piece of art originating from carved stone”. Miguel Ángel Buonarotti, the famous sculptor, believed that each marble block he worked on had a soul, a latent artwork that he tried to recover. His sculptures, he said, were always there; he only had to remove small stone fragments to bring its soul back. In this very same way, each piece of the IWA Collection was created from the subtractions made to the original block. IWA is carved out of multidensity foams and conscientiously covered with a special coating by our artisans. As a result it is extremely lightweight and comfortable despite its imposing angular geometry. The special coating also  provides great durability and resistance to wear, making it apt for outdoor use. The IWA collection allows for great levels of customization to match each customer’s individual tastes. Its modularity gives the user a chance to enjoy infinite configurations with only ten different pieces, from a chaiselongue, to a chill-out space, or an iceberg configuration. A collection with no creative limits. Iwa has its own version for children, not serving only as comfortable and child-safe furniture, but as a way to develop the psychomotor abilities. It is available in 180 different colors.
